A song in a day?

Happy Friday! I began today not really knowing what I'd be sharing this week until I was struck by an interesting thought / challenge. Could I record an arrangement of a full song in a day?

I've never done this before so I was intrigued to see if it was doable and how it'd feel creatively as a way of working.

I've been bouncing between Joni Mitchell's brilliant original of Woodstock and Crosby Stills Nash & Young version all week (I think it must be because it's festival season). I decided to experiment with whether I could make something that straddled Joni's darker ballad vibe with the fuzzy overdrive of the CSNY version. A simple loop, 3 acoustic guitar tracks, tripled vocals, bass, a synth pad, and 3 electric guitar parts later here it is:

An interesting experiment with a creative constraint that felt oddly liberating - working against the clock means choices are made fast and 'good enough' tracking is needed. Definitely something I'll experiment with more in the future but will take more time to mix as there's room for improvement - let me know if you like the arrangement.

Hope you enjoy & have a great weekend.

Stewart
